The men’s basketball team dropped a 57-54 decision to Old Dominion (20-8, 12-6 Colonial Athletic Association) in overtime Saturday night at Matthews Arena.
Junior guard Matt Janning hit a three with 23 seconds to play to give the Huskies a 50-47 lead. However, Old Dominion responded with a three from forward Jonathan Adams to tie the score with 11 seconds left. The Huskies failed to convert on the games final possession sending it to overtime.
In the extra session, the teams exchanged baskets until Adams was able to convert on a pair of free throws to put the Monarchs up two, 56-54. NU could not convert on its next possession and was forced to foul Monarch forward Gerald Lee.
After Lee made 1-of-2 from the line, the Huskies had one last chance to tie, but Janning’s three attempt went long.
The Huskies finish the regular season at 12-6 in the CAA and 18-11 overall.’ They will be the third seed in this weekends CAA Tournament to be held in Richmond, Va. With the win, ODU clinched the fourth season.’
