Diehard Kid Cudi fans rejoiced last Friday as the artist returned to Boston for the first time since headlining Springfest 2013. As the sun sank down over the harbor, a line of eager fans grew outside the Bank of America Pavilion, extending almost half a mile down Seaport Boulevard.

“Kid Cudi is my absolute favorite artist … so I bought these tickets the day they went on sale,” sophomore communication studies major Sara Shaker said. “I got floor seats. They were dope.”

Inside, the venue was packed with students, teenagers and 20-somethings. Many of them stood on their chairs to get a better view of the stage where Logic and Tyler, the Creator opened.

Tyler entered a stage decorated with fluorescent lights spelling out “GOLF” in 20-foot tall letters and large blocks, making the stage multi-dimensional. He greeted the crowd with “What’s up assholes?” met by thunderous cheers.

He then invited everyone to come up to the front, prompting many audience members to climb over the seats and rush toward the stage. This movement was quickly shut down by the venue’s staff, who requested that everyone return to their seats.

Throughout his set, the audience rapped along and chanted “Odd Wolf, Golf Wang,” lyrics often used in his songs, and nodded to the name of his hip-hop collective “Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All.”

After another hour waiting, Cudi finally appeared, met by deafening cheers and applause. He was dressed in a one-piece astronaut suit with a glowing insignia on the chest, reminiscent of Tony Stark’s Iron Man.

“When he came out, I just felt the energy. He was really into it, really enjoying himself,” said Shaker. “Everyone in the crowd was really into it, you could tell they were huge Kid Cudi fans.”

The performance began with “The Resurrection of Scott Mescudi,” the first song of from his latest album. He moved through the entire album and then branched out into classic hits like “Soundtrack 2 My Life,” “Day ‘N’ Nite” and “Up Up and Away.”

Throughout the concert, Cudi maintained an outer space theme, inspired by his two albums, “Man On The Moon: The End Of Day” and “Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager.” He also added in his single “Memories” with David Guetta, which got the whole crowd dancing and jumping along.

He finished with “Pursuit of Happiness,” which morphed into the Project X remix halfway through, making for an unexpected and raging finale.

An excited buzz accompanied the wave of people as they exited the venue, pumped up from the phenomenal show. It was clear that Cudi felt the enthusiasm too as he later tweeted, “BOSTON! ANOTHER WICKED SHOW IN THE BOOKS! SO MUCH LOVE AND ENERGY, I FELT IT Y’ALL!”
