As a kid, I ran a business. My very own lemonade stand on hot summer days. Fast forward 15 years later, and I’m still selling something, though quite a different product. What I’m selling are my goals, my ambitions, and my personality to the job market that awaits at the end of the tunnel in May.
I guess you could say that I’m not the typical college student. But isn’t that the case for all of us at Northeastern University? With co-ops and a plethora of experience under our belts, most students at other colleges can’t compare. But what is it that drives our determination for success? For most, it’s entrepreneurship.
The entrepreneurial spirit lives within each of us at Northeastern – not just students in the D’Amore-McKim School of Business. I myself am a senior in political science and communication studies. Yet, I still have the business mindset – to invent, to change, and to take risks. As Northeastern students, we share a common theme: We are constantly seeking out the next and best opportunity that drives ourselves forward on the track to success.
Now is the time to recognize Northeastern as a leader in entrepreneurship. Last year, the Northeastern University Center for Entrepreneurship Education (NUCEE) was created to propel students in every major and college to foster new ideas and create change in their industries. Next week, NUCEE is hosting Global Entrepreneurship Week, a showcase of what’s happening at Northeastern. From Nov. 18-20, the week will feature 12 panels and events, addressing topics from fundraising to mentorship, and providing opportunities to meet and interact with successful Northeastern entrepreneurs from all generations.
Northeastern is filled with infinite resources to help students turn ideas into businesses. IDEA, Northeastern’s student-run venture accelerator, along with the Entrepreneurship Club, will be on hand to help all students recognize their entrepreneurship potential.
One lesson that everyone at Northeastern can learn is this: It is never too late to be the pioneer. As students of this university, it is our time to create something big. And with the resources Northeastern has to offer, we can do it. I encourage you to embrace our entrepreneurial community, and I welcome you to Global Entrepreneurship Week.
