The women’s crew team earned some accolades last week for their excellence in the water and in the classroom.
Sophomore Veronica Townsend from Mays Landing, N.J., was selected for the College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-New England first team. Her teammates, seniors Svenja Sanders of Essen, Germany, and Colleen Saville of Gansevoort, N.Y., were named All-New England second team.
Members of the All-New England teams must be eligible student-athletes and have competed in 75 percent of their team’s varsity boat races. The three are also eligible for All-American awards.
Sanders also earned the distinction of being a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete, as did three other crew members: seniors Diana Bernstein of Medfield and Jillise Ketcham of Wappinger Falls, N.Y. and sophomore Rachel Buff of Ballston Lake, N.Y.
To be eligible as a National-Scholar Athlete, all rowers must maintain a 3.5 grade point average and participate in 75 percent of their team’s varsity boat races.
