Following a 2008-09 season that saw the men’s and women’s hockey teams qualify for the postseason, a total of 25 players were named to the Hockey East All-Academic team June 9.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team players had to earn a grade-point average of 3.0 or above during the two academic periods they were playing.

On the men’s side, recent graduate defenseman Dennis Chisholm and senior forward Rob Rassey were named Hockey East Distinguished Scholars for completing their four years of eligibility with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Also named to the All-Academic team are senior defenseman Andrew Linard; junior forwards Greg Costa and Dylan Wiwchar; sophomores goaltender Mike Binnington, and defensemen Mike Hewkin and Dan Nycholat; and freshmen forward Matt Lipinski, defenseman JP Maley and forward Mike McLaughlin.

Junior defenseman Katy Applin is one of 14 members of the women’s hockey team to earn all-conference accolades. Applin was named one of two Hockey East Top-Scholar Athletes for finishing the season with the highest GPA in the league, a perfect 4.0. Recent graduate forward Missy Elumba and senior forwards Ali Bielawski and Cassie Sperry were recognized as Distinguished Scholars, while Applin and Elumba were placed on the Academic All-Star Team. Other members of the All-Academic team members include senior defenseman Erin Reil; juniors defenseman Ginny Berg, defenseman Lindsay Berman and forward Annie Hogan; sophomores forward Lori Antflick, defenseman Julia Marty, goaltender Leah Sulyma, defenseman Vanessa Tomchik and forward Alyssa Wohlfeiler; and freshman defenseman Stephanie Gavronsky.
