Antonio Reynolds-Dean was named an assistant coach of the men’s basketball team by head coach Bill Coen July 6.
The team was without a second assistant coach for more than a month following the departure of former assistant John Rhodes, who became the head coach at Ohio Northern University May 26.
To fill the role, Coen returned to his roots to find a new assistant. Reynolds-Dean played for Rhode Island from 1995 to 1999 when Coen served as an assistant coach.
As a player under Coen and head coach Al Skinner, Reynolds-Dean became a standout player for the Rams. In four seasons he scored 1,576 points, was second in school history with 235 blocks, and third all-time in rebounds with 1,028. He still holds the school record for consecutive starts at 131 games. He earned recognition as the Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Year in 1995-96, as a member of the conference’s All-Defensive team in 1996-97, and as a third team All-Atlantic-10 selection in 1998-99.
Reynolds-Dean comes to Northeastern after a season as the director of basketball operations at Fairfield University from 2008 to 2009.
