UPDATE: According to a statement by Arlington Police Chief Fredrick Ryan, the Middlesex Sheriff’s Department informed the Arlington Police Department that Patrick Barry died the morning of Feb. 21 in a Boston hospital. His death is currently under investigation.
Northeastern student Patrick Barry who was suspended, was charged Feb. 13 in Cambridge District Court for indecent assault and battery on a 14-year-old, according to a statement from Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan.
On Tuesday, Feb. 1, Arlington Police Department (APD) responded to investigate the reported assault and battery in the area of Summer and Mill streets, according to a statement issued by the APD. The victim said that a man came up from behind and touched them inappropriately.
Last summer, the Medford native was charged with armed assault with intent to rape in West Roxbury District Court after he was arrested in connection with two assaults in Mission Hill.
In an email sent out last June by Northeastern, the Boston Police Department reported two separate incidents of assault with a knife on women in Mission Hill, where Barry was residing at the time. He was arraigned in connection with the assaults, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office said last year. He pleaded not guilty to both allegations.
In the latest incident, Joseph Jackson Jr., the Chief Probation Officer for the Commonwealth, recognized the victim’s descriptions as Barry quickly. A GPS log, meant to keep track of Barry as part of his probation after his previous assaults, was used to place him on the scene of the crime at the time of the assault.
“This is a fine example of teamwork leading to an arrest and some closure for our community,” Ryan said in a statement. “A dangerous offender is off the streets today.”
Barry is due to appear in court on March 13 for a pretrial hearing.
