The Northeastern men’s and women’s track teams kicked off postseason competition last weekend at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships in Harrisonburg, Va. Both squads took home second-place team finishes while two Huskies earned individual honors for their exceptional performances on the track and in the field.
The men’s squad finished with 221 points, 44 behind CAA champion UNCW.
Junior Stephen Sollowin became the first Northeastern runner to be named the CAA Men’s Most Outstanding Track Performer after claiming victories in the 5,000-meter run and the 1,500-meter run. He finished the 5,000 in 14:46.49 and the 1,500 in 3:57.75.
Sophomore Donovan Henry brought a pair of titles back to Huntington Avenue with wins in the 400-meter and 200-meter dashes. He finished the 400 in 48.20 seconds and the 200 in 21.53 seconds. Fellow sophomore Wesley Gallagher won the 10,000-meter run for the Huskies in 30:37.60.
Two Huskies also grabbed individual victories in the field, as senior Jackson MacDonald won the high jump with a 1.90-meter jump and senior Max Milder won the hammer throw with a toss of 60.58 meters.
The women’s team earned a total of 138 points, tying the College of William & Mary for second place. The University of Delaware won the CAA title with 158 points.
Sophomore Nicole Genard collected CAA Women’s Most Outstanding Field Performer honors after winning the heptathlon with a total of 4,862 points. She also finished second in the javelin and third in the long jump.
Sophomore Camille Gooden won the 400-meter dash in 55.39. She also finished second in the 200-meter dash.
Sophomore Jacilyn Briggs won the pole vault with a mark of 3.70 meters. Senior Julia Westover claimed the hammer throw title with a mark of 51.84 meters.
The Huskies continue postseason action Thursday when they head to Westfield, Mass. for the New England Championships.
The qualifying members of the team will then head to Princeton, N.J. on May 16 for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) and Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) championships.
