The NUPD comprises of Northeastern University’s safety divison and police department, which are meant to look after the safety of those that make up the Northeastern community.
The police officers of the NUPD fall under Massachusetts state law of having full law enforcement authority in and around the school campus. This gives officers the right to exercise duties in the same manner as the Boston Police Department would on campus.
NUPD police must complete a training program through a police academy before becoming officers. These officers consist of community service officers, who manage the security of campus, and the special services unit, which aims to end crime on campus, as well as the command and supervisory staff and a fire safety squad.
