Senior VP to become Central College president
Northeastern’s Senior Vice President for Executive Affairs, Mark Putnam, was named President of Central College in Pella, Iowa, and will assume the position in July 2010, according to an e-mail from Northeastern President Joseph Aoun sent to university staff and faculty yesterday. In the e-mail, Aoun said in his 10-year employment at Northeastern, Putnam was ‘critical’ in the development of the school’s academic plan and mission statement. He also played a major role in forming the Stony Brook Initiative, which aims to increase the school’s partnership with the community, Aoun said. He said the appointment reflects on Northeastern and its ability to ‘develop human and intellectual capital’ well. Aoun, Putnam and the Senior Leadership Team will work towards a smooth transition of Putnam’s responsibilities in the coming months, according to the e-mail.

SGA Funding Priorities Survey still open online
The Student Government Association (SGA) Funding Priorities Survey will remain available for completion until noon Friday, according to an e-mail from SGA President Ryan Fox and Vice President for Financial Services Michael Spinella. According the the e-mail, the survey will influence how tuition dollars are spent in the 2010-2011 school year. Initial problems with the survey affecting students living off-campus and in International Village have been resolved, according the e-mail. College Against Cancer to host SmokeOut today
Colleges Against Cancer at Northeastern will host the Great American SmokeOut today starting at 11 a.m. in Centennial Quad, group spokesperson Sarah Clermont said in an e-mail to The News. The group will have an information table about the negative effects of smoking and will give ‘quit kits’ to anyone who pledges not to smoke for the day. An anti-smoking demonstration will also be held at 2:30 p.m recognizing the people who die every three minutes from lung cancer, Clermont said.

GZA to perform in afterHOURS Monday night
Monday night at 7:30 p.m. GZA/Genius of Wu-Tang Clan will perform at afterHOURS, according to the Facebook event page. Tickets go on sale tonight at 7 p.m. in the Blackman Box Office. The tickets are free, but for Northeastern students only. Hip hop artists Jah C and Xavier Pryce will open, and GZA/Genius will be backed by Break Science. The event is hosted by the Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association (MEISA), the Council for University Programs (CUP) and afterHOURS.

Applications for study abroad in the fall of 2010 are available now in the Office of International Study Programs (OISP) in 10 Belvidere, according an announcement on myNEU portal. Great White Way to perform Saturday
