In two games, junior forward Crystal Rochon scored three goals and notched one assist to give the women’s hockey team two consecutive wins for the first time since early October. Rochon added another goal in the Huskies’ 4-2 loss to Maine on Sunday.
“The entire game we knew if we played well, we could win,” Rochon said. “If we had played our game in the second period, we could have won that game.”
Despite the loss, the women’s hockey team has brought it’s season record to 4-12-1 (3-7-1 Hockey East) with wins against Maine and Brown in the past week. Rochon attributes the team’s turnaround to improved team chemistry.
“It took awhile to get going,” Rochon said. “We are relying heavily on freshmen this year who didn’t have the experience earlier in the season. They have it now and we are all clicking.”
Rochon opened the scoring against Brown with a goal 34 seconds into the second period, and assisted on Amy Goodney’s insurance goal at 14:34 of the third.
In the team’s win over Maine, Rochon scored the team’s first and fourth goals. Rochon, The Northeastern News Player of the Week, leads her team in goals and is second on the team with 11 points. Sophomore forward Nikki Petrich, who has assisted Rochon’s last four goals, is the only player with more points (14).
“My linemates Nikki Petrich and Amy Goodney have been excellent at feeding me the puck,” Rochon said.
The St. Adolphe, Manitoba native was named Hockey East Player of the Week for scoring four goals and being plus-6 while the team went 2-1 last week.
