Virginia Eskin gets to fulfill several of her passions at once with the power of music in her new radio program “First Ladies of Music.”
“You can’t have a life without music,” Eskin said. “It’s like a life without food or kissing. It’d be very barren.”
Eskin, a lecturer and visiting musician in the music department, created a 13-week radio special on WGBH-FM (89.7) with support from Northeastern University and WFMT-FM Chicago that will showcase past and present women composers. The program airs Sundays at 11 p.m.
“There’s no textbook that helps a teacher understand women composers,” she said. “I realized that if there was a course that started with Sappho and ended with Bj
