The Northeastern women’s track team hosted the Solomon Husky Invitational this Saturday in Dedham.
Notable finishers for the Huskies included the 4×100 relay team consisting of senior Jordine Kimbrel, juniors Shanae Henry and Ashley Wilson and sophomore Tramaine Shaw. The quartet took first place with a time of 47.19 seconds. Junior Davianne Brown, competing in only her second 400-meter hurdle event, finished second with a time of 1:05.98. Junior Erin Ballard took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.18. Sophomore Alice Rybalko placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.96.
In the field events, freshman Olivia Kalinowski won the high jump with a height of 12 feet. Sophomore Patricia Harrison came in first in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet one inch. Junior Zara Northover, fresh off being named Colonial Athletic Association Field Athlete of the Week, took seventh in the javelin with a throw of 112 feet seven inches. Ashley Wilson, a member of the first place 4×100 team also competed in the javelin, taking fifteenth with a throw of 91 feet one inch.
Coach Sherman Hart said the CAA award was a great accomplishment for Northover, but said she wasn’t ready to stop there.
“She’s looking for the MVP of the whole conference,” he said. “Besides winning, that’s what she wants.”
After the previous meet, Hart mentioned trying some of his athletes in races they aren’t accustomed to. Some of these new athletes who stood out included Brown and Northover. Despite her inexperience in the event, Brown has already moved up to ninth in the conference in the 400-meter hurdles. Hart said that Northover’s performance in the javelin put herself in a good situation for future meets.
However, Hart stressed the need to still make up some of the points the team has lost due to injuries.
“[We] are still searching for another leg on the 4×100 to replace Charity Briggs,” he said.
He said that several athletes were on the verge of stepping up to fill these holes.
The Huskies travel to Richmond Va. over the weekend to compete in the CAA Championship meet.
