YMCA sale of two wings may yield 700 student beds The YMCA of Greater Boston is set to sell two wings of its central complex on Huntington Avenue to a Dallas-based developer, in a move which could potentially provide 700 new residence hall beds, The Boston Globe reported last week. Phoenix Property Co., an affiliate of Lincoln Property Co. of Boston, will pay at least $25 million for the lot – a price that could rise if it can successfully bring in student housing. Northeastern Business Manager Bill Mallon said the university “is not in discussions for leasing those beds at this point – but you never know, we might be approached at some time in the future.” The YMCA will continue to operate 100,000 square feet of the building. During a Community Task Force meeting in February, the YMCA site was among a series of locations deemed viable for Northeastern to consider purchasing for student housing. “In the short-term, medium-term and long-term, these should be the sites that we talk about,”said Jeff Doggett, director of government relations and community affairs, at the meeting. Northeastern leases about 100 beds from the complex each year, typically reserved for upperclassmen, according to Dean of Campus Life Marina Iannalfo.
