New York City will host the seventh annual Governors Ball Music Festival at Randall’s Island Park June 2 through 4. Worthwhile performances will be happening throughout the weekend. Chance the Rapper, Phoenix, Childish Gambino and Cage the Elephant are among the headliners. This year’s festival will also see the comebacks of some of artists like Tool, The Avalanches and Wu-Tang Clan.
Here are some of the headliners:
Chance the Rapper: The Chicago native is fresh off three Grammy wins for his mixtape “Coloring Book” and is sure to bring an energetic performance of his gospel-influenced hip-hop to the festival’s first night.
Childish Gambino: His performance on Saturday night will be his only show of the summer, With the success of his funk driven album “Awaken, My Love” it’s a performance you’ll want to see.
Dua Lipa: The British musician’s debut album will drop June 2, the day before her Saturday performance at Governors Ball, but she has already collaborated with artists including Chris Martin and Miguel. This performance will be a big one for Lipa and could be a chance to see her before she becomes a household name.
Phoenix: The rock band hasn’t performed since 2014 but fans of the band can look forward to hearing the new music they have been working on at this year’s festival. They will take the stage Saturday night.
Cage the Elephant: The family folk band just won Best Rock Album at the 2017 Grammy Awards for their album “Tell Me I’m Pretty” and will be performing on Sunday night.
The News will be covering the festival each day with photos and reviews.
