After a season of sitting on the sidelines, sophomore hitter Brittany Eukovich is back on the court and making her presence felt.
“I had butterflies,” Eukovich said. “I had to control my adrenaline because I was a mess. I was so excited to be back.”
Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Player of the Week and Northeastern News Player of the Week, Eukovich helped the volleyball team defeat the defending CAA champion Virginia Commonwealth (VCU) and William ‘ Mary, bringing the team’s record to 2-1 in the CAA, 4-6 overall and raising them to fourth in the conference.
Eukovich redshirted the 2005 season after an All-Rookie team selection her freshman year.
“Sitting out for a year gave me so much perspective,” Eukovich said. “I have so much heart now.”
Eukovich tallied eight kills with a .438 attacking percentage and four blocks in the game against VCU. Against William ‘ Mary, she had 10 kills with a .476 attacking percentage, and only one error in 37 attacking attempts. She also averaged 22.5 points in the two matches.
The team started off slow, going down two games in both matches. However, they came back to win both matches.
With numbers on the season like 65 kills, 17 blocks, 10 service aces and a .317 attacking percentage, Eukovich is making this season count.
“The past few games have been so exciting, with the team having more confidence and knowing that we can win the conference,” Eukovich said. “Now we just have to do it.”
With a newfound closeness and team unity at its best, Eukovich said her hopes for the rest of the season are high. With rematches against Hofstra and VCU, the team is “definitely out for blood,” looking to prove themselves as the team to beat.
“I just want to play as a team and win conference championships,” Eukovich said.
