Huskies sweep home tourney

By Jewel Della Valle

The Huskies got off to a rough start this season after dropping three at the Cal Molten Classic Tournament Aug. 24 and Aug. 25, but recovered last weekend after banging out three straight wins at the BC/NU challenge.

Northeastern took its first match of the BC/NU Challenge, held at Solomon Court, with force. The Huskies faced off against Sacred Heart Friday and crushed the Pioneers with scores of 30-11, 30-12, 30-21. Northeastern hit .368 as a team with 14 service aces and 43 kills, compared to Sacred Heart’s .038 attacking percentage with two service aces and 25 kills.

Northeastern’s roster is comprised of just seven returning players and eight freshmen, but senior captain Kira Batura said the young team is adjusting well.

“A lot of the girls are learning stuff and there’s still a lot of chemistry to be built,” Batura said. “We don’t have any big things to work on, just a lot of the little things, which shouldn’t be a problem.
