Men’s and Women’s Crew: Men’s crew ends season at IRA

The men’s crew team wrapped up its season last weekend, finishing 11th overall at the IRA Championship in Camden, N.J. The Husky varsity eight took eighth in the petite final, coming in behind the Cornell, Wisconsin, Yale and Oregon State crews at 5:47.2.

Northeastern qualified for the petite final after taking sixth in the semi-final with a time of 5:48.7, finishing behind Washington, Princeton, Stanford, Cornell and Michigan. The varsity eight topped off the season with a 2-3 record before heading to Cooper River for the IRA.

The second varsity eight also finished 11th overall, placing sixth in the semi-final and fifth in the petite final behind the Harvard B, Pennsylvania, Syracuse and Yale A crews with a time of 5:55.8.

The freshmen eight managed to secure a win for Northeastern, crossing the finish line at 5:50.4 to beat Cornell, Orange Coast, Stanford, George Washington and Georgetown.

The open four crew was the only Husky boat to appear in the grand final, coming in third with a time of 6:26.4 behind Washington and Princeton.

The women’s crew team also ended its season on the Cooper River at the Eastern Sprints May 13. The Huskies failed to qualify for the NCAA Championship after coming in sixth overall, but finished the year with a 10-3 mark, an improvement from 2006’s 4-3 record and 2005’s 3-8 record.
