Junior sought by State Police

A warrant for armed robbery was issued for a 20-year-old Northeastern student last week following a car chase with State Police that resulted in an on-foot pursuit, according to Northeastern’s Division of Public Safety reports.

Ryne Boelter, a junior philosophy major from Washington, D.C., occupied a car that pulled up on St. Stephen Street next to a 23-year-old male alumnus, who he knew, and offered him a ride, according to James Ferrier, assistant director of public safety.

The alumnus reported that when he got in the car it drove off campus and Boelter, along with two other occupants, allegedly robbed the alumnus at gunpoint, taking his cell phone and cash.

The alumnus said he was warned not to report the robbery and was allowed to exit the car near Boston Medical Center, Ferrier said. He flagged down a State Police cruiser, which began pursuing the Black Mercury Sedan on Massachusetts Avenue near New Market at about 6 p.m., State Police officials said. After failing to stop at a stoplight, the car, which Boelter is believed to have been operating, took off, officials said.

The Sedan stopped near Albany Street, where the suspects, three black males, fled on foot and were unable to be found, State Police said. A handgun and identification identifying Boelter were found in the vehicle.

Boetler, who is known as “E” to his friends, lives in an apartment on Gainsborough Street, but hasn’t been located. Ferrier said the Northeastern Police Department suspects he returned to his home state, Maryland. He has been banned from campus pending an OSCCR hearing this week.
