Tutoring services offered around campus

When the Provost’s Office announced last May that the Peer Tutoring Center would close in late June and tutoring would fall under individual colleges, some students panicked, said Stephen Lavenberg, Student Government Association’s vice president for academic affairs.

“The decentralized tutoring is a good idea, but I don’t think the timing of the plan was most beneficial for students,” Lavenberg said.

Each of the colleges is now attempting to fulfill student needs. The challenge is most difficult at the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) because of its many areas of study, Lavenberg said.

CAS hired Tina Kondopoulos as senior associate director for the college to ensure the accessibility and effectiveness of a new tutoring program. Tutors in the new program will be graduate students, Teaching Assistants [TAs] and students.

Kondopoulos and Mary Mello, CAS director for academic student services, plan to create a website to show students their on campus tutoring options.
