Player of the Week

Last Friday, freshman forward Emma Boggio scored the game-winning goal in the second half for the field hockey team, giving the Huskies a victory over Delaware.

The goal not only gave her team the win, but Boggio was later named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Rookie of the Week, also earning her the Northeastern News Player of the Week honors.

“I was surprised,” Boggio said of the CAA award. “It is such an honor.”

Boggio has already contributed to the team’s success this season, appearing in all 14 games for the Huskies and leading the team in game-winning goals with two.

“It’s pretty cool,” Boggio said about her role on the team. She also said the older players have been a big part of her success by welcoming her on the field and giving her good opportunities.

When she isn’t scoring goals, Boggio is working on a business degree. She plans to stay in school for five years, graduating in 2012.

She also enjoys drawing and snowboarding when she has some free time. Now a collegiate athlete, her snowboard opportunities are limited, and Boggio said she would never go out and risk injury on the slopes.

Growing up in Canada, Boggio played soccer and field hockey when she was younger, but decided to quit soccer and stick with field hockey when she entered high school. Right now she is enjoying the season, and feels confident she made the right decision.

“I am just trying to take every game one at a time,” Boggio said.

As for the future, she knows the team is ready to take the next step. The Huskies, currently 6-8, are looking to turn things around and break .500.

“We need to come out with the right mindset because it really makes a difference,” Boggio said.
