Aoun discusses arrests, provost search and fundraising

President Joseph Aoun, like the rest of the university, said hewas affected by the recent arrests on Mission Hill and the questions that were subsequently raised about Northeastern’s efforts to keep students out of trouble while strengthening relations with the community.

“If you have a friend who is arrested, are you happy with that? No. So the first reaction is very simple. We are a community. If a member of the community is arrested, I am not happy,” Aoun said. “If there is something that is impacting the student, it’s impacting you, it’s impacting me, it’s impacting each one of us. I’m certainly not happy, so now the question is, what can we do collectively to work together?”

In an interview with the News, Aoun discussed the arrests, along with other issues within Northeastern’s community.

Aoun said some community members celebrate students and the work they do in neighboring areas, while others say Northeastern is detrimental to the community.
