Player of the Week

The men’s soccer team won its last two games, pulling its record to an even 2-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). In both games, junior forward Lewis Ehrlich scored game-winning goals. His recent performance on the field earned him CAA Rookie of the Week and the Northeastern News Player of the Week honors.

“I didn’t know it existed,” Ehrlich said of the CAA award. “It’s nice to be recognized, but it’s important that the team keeps winning.”

The team, currently 4-7 and seventh in the CAA, still has a long way to go if they want to make the playoffs. However, Ehrlich is confident in his team’s ability to make it in the postseason.

“I think we are playing well enough to keep going. We are starting to gel as a team and hopefully we will keep working hard and winning games,” he said.

Ehrlich is playing his first season as a Husky after playing two years for a college in Australia, his native country.

“I wanted to experience something new and live in a new country,” he said.

Adjusting to the American style of soccer is something Ehrlich seems to have finally gotten used to, as shown in this weekend’s games.

“It took a while to adjust to this new style of soccer,” Ehrlich said. “It’s more physical here, there is a lot more running, but it’s also similar in many ways.”

Ehrlich, who recently underwent knee surgery, said he is excited to finally be on the field and play.

Ehrlich is a history major who is graduating next year, and is uncertain of his plans after college. No matter what, he said, he will definitely go back to Australia and continue his studies there.

Off the pitch, Ehrlich likes to hang out with friends and relax. He also enjoys other sports, including golf, and when he has time, he goes skiing.

One of the things Ehrlich loves about Australia are the beautiful beaches, he said, adding he misses most since there are few beach opportunities in Boston.

Scoring game-winning-goals is something Ehrlich said he is becoming familiar with.

“Winning games is a good feeling and it’s lots of fun when we get one,” Ehrlich said. “It’s always a good feeling and it’s nice to get the team across the line.”
