Animals meant for dinner ‘suffer greatly’

I enjoyed reading about Northeastern students attending the Boston Vegetarian Festival (“Vegetarians pitch healthy alternatives,” Oct. 22). Students across the country are eliminating or reducing the amount of animal products in their diets due to concerns about factory farms.

People who care about animals should know that animals suffer greatly in industrialized agribusiness. Female pigs and calves are kept in cages so small they can hardly move. Egg-laying hens are crammed so tightly into wire cages that they can’t even spread their wings.

Humanesociety.org has more information about how readers can help reduce farm animal suffering.
