For those of you who are registered to vote, there will be an election next Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002.
In order to spark enthusiasm for politics and the players that govern the world that surrounds us, World Wrestling Entertainment and four of its “superstars” have been on tour across the country with the “Smackdown the Vote” tour. This effort to combat voter apathy is hitting Northeastern’s campus next Monday.
The concept may seem frivolous, but the status of voter participation in the nation within the age bracket of 18 to 25-year-olds is in dire straits. If it takes professional wrestlers calling for the casting of ballots, then so be it. But the superstars should not be alone. Members of the administration should reach out to the outstretched hand of the Student Government Association and the Youth Voter Coalition.
This rally is not only essential to fighting apathetic voters, but it may also help Northeastern as a general community fight its problem as an apathetic campus.
Both issues are concerns on a campus-wide and national scale.
According to SGA President Richard Schawbacher, the age bracket of 18 to 25-year-olds is the most informed and opinionated age group, but is also the most apathetic when it comes to voting.
This statement proves very frightening for our generation. Clich
