Business school ranks high nationwide Entrepreneur magazine and The Princeton Review ranked Northeastern’s College of Business Administration 24th in the United States, according to a report in The Voice. This is the fifth time Entrepreneur and Princeton Review have conducted this annual ranking. Their key criteria include academics and requirements, students and faculty and outside-the-classroom support and experiences. Only two New England-based undergraduate programs appeared in the top 25, out of the 900 schools that were evaluated. -Kate Augusto, News Staff

Thanksgiving events to promote cultural enrichment The International Student and Scholar Institute (ISSI) is holding two cross-cultural enrichment opportunities on Thanksgiving Day, according to a myNEU announcement. The first, the 20th Annual ISSI Thanksgiving Dinner will be held on the fourth floor of Ell Hall at the ISSI’s “Global Conservatory.” The dinner is sponsored by Residential Life, the John D. O’Bryant African-American Institute, the Asian American Center and the Latino/a Student Cultural Center. It takes place Thursaday at 5 p.m. and is open to the Northeastern community. Those who wish to attend must contact ISSI at 617-373-2310 to reserve a place in advance. The second event is “Global Expressions Thanksgiving Exchange,” which aims to promote the sharing of Thanksgiving traditions among international students and scholars and the rest of the Northeastern community. The program places an international student in a home on Thanksgiving Day. The application to either host a student guest or be a student-guest is due today. -Kate Augusto, News Staff

Alternative Spring Break placements available Students have until the end of the semester to apply to be a volunteer for Alternative Spring Break 2008. Sponsored by the Center for Community Service, Alternative Spring Break is a weeklong immersive living and volunteer experience that helps students explore the culture and history of an area and build leadership skills while addressing a social issue, according to the Center for Community Service website. Spots are available in several domestic locations, including Kissimmee, Fla., where students can help protect nature, and Macon, Ga., where students help rehabilitate homes for low-income homeowners, according to a Northeastern announcement. International trips are full but students can e-mail [email protected] to put their name on a waiting list. NU researchers testified for human trafficking act Amy Ferrell and Jack McDevitt, two Northeastern researchers, were invited to testify on human trafficking before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee, according to a story in The Voice. Farrell is the principal research scientist and associate director of the Institute on Race and Justice and McDevitt is the director of the insititute and associate dean of the College of Criminal Justice. Both discussed how a pending act, called the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2007, can help improve responses to human trafficking. The invitation to testify came after recent projects by the researches, including a study surveying more than 3,000 law enforcement agencies to look at enforcement responses to human trafficking, according to the article. -Kate Augusto, News Staff

Yoga package offers sessions of stress relief Northeastern is offering six intersession Ashtanga Yoga sessions to help students de-stress. These sessions cost $30 for a six session package or $10 a class, paid in cash, for drop in, according to a Northeastern announcement. Ashtanga Yoga is a method of Yoga that involves synchronizing breathing with a series of postures, according to ashtanga.com. The sessions will take place in the multi-purpose room in the Badger-Rosen Squashbuster Center from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 26 and 28 and Dec. 3, 5, 10 and 12. Student artwork to be displayed in exhibition The Department of Art+Design is hosting a student exhibition of student artwork. The presented artwork was chosen from students who went on a study abroad program to Ireland during Summer II. The show, called “Out in the Burren: an Irish study abroad experience” will be held in the Curry Student Center Art Gallery Dec. 3 to Dec. 14. The opening will be Dec. 3 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The show, which is open to the public, will include paintings, drawings, sound and photography. Participating artists include Jaclyn Cunningham, Emily Gillcrist, Katie Drago, Eli Epstein, Geoff House, Arielle Blattner, Rachel Brown, Coleman Goughary, Blair St. Onge, Daniel Donovan, Megan Moskun, Laura Cunniff, Jane Bassolino, Sarah Wohl and Emma Jenkins. -Kate Augusto, News Staff
