Letter to the editor: Klotzbier: Huskies need holiday cheers

I read with great interest men’s basketball Coach Bill Coen’s excellent letter to the editor (“Coach: men’s basketball needs support,” Nov. 29). I wholeheartedly agree with the high value Coen places on student support for athletics games. I have seen firsthand how much the “presence and energy” Coen writes about can be the difference between a tough loss and an exhilarating win for the Huskies.

And that goes for all of our sports teams. Women’s hoops and both hockey teams need our support now. I have felt Matthews Arena shake with excitement, and I know it can again – with your help. Let’s give our teams the home field advantage they deserve. And why not take your enthusiasm to some away games, too? There was a great NU crowd at the recent men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader at BU. And I know where I’ll be Dec. 22 – up at the Heights watching our guys go head-to-head with Boston College. It’s going to be a great game.

And for you local kids who are home for semester break, but still in the area, why not go pump up the team with your presence? Get to the game in your Diehard Dogs t-shirts. I know some of our hardcore fans are headed out to Storrs, Conn. this week to check out the ultimate Husky versus Husky showdown, as I did last year when we reminded Jim Calhoun where he came from.

We have the power to help our teams succeed. And just for the record, I have a very good feeling about the Beanpot this year
