Letter to the editor: Health Services a comfort for sick students

In the Nov. 29 issue of The News, the article “With no symptoms, UHCS does not test,” seemed one-sided. The article only cited one student’s experience in being denied STD testing without symptoms.

If a student were to walk into the University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS) and say, “I need to be checked for strep throat,” the doctor would then ask, “Sure, what are your symptoms?” If the student replied,”Well, I don’t have any. I just think I could have it,” I’m sure the doctor would tell the student to go home and return when he actually did have something wrong with him.

Dr. Gairy Hall said in the article that it isn’t UHCS’s fault that they cannot treat a patient without symptoms, it really has to do with insurance coverage.

I went to UHCS last Monday, complaining of an intense headache, fever, sore throat and nausea.
