A large amount of lost personal belongings from the Marino Center was brought to public safety. If you have recently lost earrings, watches, rings, necklaces, charms, bracelets, glasses, keys, tapes, CDs or portable CD players, you can stop by Public Safety on Columbus Avenue and pick them up between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday to claim them.
Tuesday, Oct. 22
11 a.m.
A female student from White Hall called to report receiving threatening instant messages and a threatening phone call. While traces were being set up, she reported that it was a friend who intended to be playing a joke. She would not reveal the identity of her friend.
11:30 a.m.
A Residence Assistant in 337 Huntington Ave. called to report that marijuana had been found in the room of two male residents, one 19-year-old and one 20-year-old, while doing an announced tour of the building. There had been a few joints left in an ashtray. Upon the arrival of officers, one of the residents had come home. He was questioned and he later opened the top drawer of his desk to turn over a marijuana pipe, a jar of stems and seeds, a small plastic bag of marijuana and a buck knife. Several alcoholic beverages were also found. The resident admitted that both he and his roommates smoke marijuana on a regular basis in the room. The students will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR).
8 p.m.
An 18-year-old female student reported that after leaving her book bag unattended in the Info Commons, she got home and realized a pouch was unzipped and her wallet was missing. It contained $20, several credit cards and identifications.
11:30 p.m.
A 22-year-old female student reported that she had left her book bag unattended near some friends in the Snell Quad earlier that night. It was gone once she returned. It contained several credit cards and identifications.
Wednesday, Oct. 23
11 a.m.
An RA conducting announced room checks in White Hall called to report a homemade bong in a room on the third floor. Of the three male residents, one 19-year-old and two 18-year-olds, one was questioned, and admitted that the bong was his, but that he used it to smoke regular tobacco. He will be referred to OSCCR.
5:30 p.m.
A 23-year-old female commuter student reported on her cellphone that while walking through Sculpture Park, near the Snell Library, a group of high school age youths asked her for money. She reported that she just ignored it, but then one of them struck the backpack she was wearing. Officers fanned out and found the youths on Tremont Street. The student later identified two of them. An 18-year-old male and a 16-year-old male were held at the station until their parents could be contacted. The 16-year-old admitted to striking the student, and he was told not to return to campus.
Thursday, Oct. 24
8 a.m.
The manager of Wollaston’s in West Village called to report that he was detaining a shoplifter. An 8-year-old boy had tried to steal a few packs of gum. He was with his 9-year-old half-brother. Their mother was contacted and she came to pick them up.
10:30 a.m.
The manager of Wollaston’s in the Marino Center called to report that he was detaining a 17-year-old male student for shoplifting. He had reportedly tried to take health and beauty aides. The student did not have any money on him, and was extremely apologetic. He will be referred to OSCCR.
Noon
A 22-year-old female student left her cellphone unattended in the lobby of Shillman Hall. When she returned 30 minutes later, it was gone.
10:30 p.m.
An RA reported the smell of marijuana on the second floor of Smith Hall. Officers arrived and did not find any drugs present, although there was a strong odor. The two male residents and their two male guests admitted that they had been smoking, but that it was all gone. The two 18-year-old and two 17-year-old students will be referred to OSCCR.
Friday, Oct. 25
1:30 p.m.
An 18-year-old female resident of White Hall reported that she heard from one of her roommates that their other roommate was making verbal threats against her. The victim was offered alternative accommodations for the night, but declined saying that she would stay with a friend. She later called back to say that she would like an emergency restraining order. The roommates had been in conflict since the day they moved in. The order was granted and the next morning the roommate who made the threats was ordered out of her housing. A court proceeding was then held to see if the restraining order should be continued, and it was. The student who made the threats is not allowed within 10 yards of the student who was threatened, and she will be referred to OSCCR.
Saturday, Oct. 26
2 a.m.
A resident of West Village building C called to report that people in the hallways were discharging a fire extinguisher. The dust from the incident led to a room on the fourth floor, but the residents of that room denied any involvement. The will be referred to OSCCR.
3 a.m.
The high rise portion of West Village Building A was evacuated after someone discharged the fire extinguisher on the seventh floor and set off the fire alarm. No one would come forward to identify the perpetrator, but the matter is still under heavy investigation. During the evacuation, a female student fell and injured herself on the stairs. She had a seizure and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Sunday, Oct. 27
2 a.m.
An RA doing rounds on the fourth floor of Speare Hall reported that while walking by a room, someone walked out, and left the door open. A beer ball was seen by the RA. Once questioned, an 18-year-old male student began to make threatening movements and gestures. The alcohol was disposed of. Officers questioned the 18-year-old student. He denied making threats to the RA, and admitted that a non-student friend brought the alcohol. He would not give the identity of the person, but this matter is still under investigation. He will be referred to OSCCR for both the threats and the alcohol violation.
2:15 a.m.
A Community Receptionist in Melvin Hall called to report that a man had been buzzing rooms, became frustrated when no one would come down and sign him in, and punched the window in the front door, breaking it. The man then left, but upon officers arrival, he came back and was identified by the CR. Jason Lea, 19, originally of Virginia, was arrested. Lea claimed to have no local address. It was later found that he had been living with a female student in the hall. He was told not to visit anymore, and his female friend not to sign him in anymore.
Monday, Oct. 28
12 a.m.
Obscene drawings and writings were found on the walls on the third floor of Stetson East. Obscene writing was also found on a fourth floor message board.
4:30 p.m.
An anonymous caller reported seeing some people breaking into a car on Davenport Street. The security tape was viewed and the people were gone. After an investigation, it was determined that there was a car that had been broken into and the radio, speakers and stereo were stolen. The car belonged to the father of a student living in Davenport Commons. He was notified.
10:30 p.m.
A fight was reported in the Stetson East lobby. Officers met with an RA and the 19-year-old male student victim, who is a resident in Burstein Hall. His assailant had reportedly lost his wallet earlier that day, and suspected that the victim may have known about it. Officers attempted to talk to the attacker, but he was not home. He came into the station later in the night and admitted to wrong doing. He will be referred to OSCCR.
