The women’s swimming and diving team topped James Madison on the road Saturday, 172 to 126.
Returning from a month of training, which included a trip to Puerto Rico, the Northeastern women swam to victory in the 200-yard medley relay and never looked back, winning 12 of the meet’s 16 events.
“Both of our teams were really evenly matched,” said breaststroker Elena Alvarez. “So it was really great to see our team go out with a bang. We all started and finished our races really aggressively.”
Northeastern divers got in on the action, too, as Brittany Gilles, Brooks Wallace and Courtney Flanagan swept the three meter event and placed second, third and fourth, respectively, in one meter diving.
“I am so proud of the fight in all the girls in each competition,” said senior co-captain Kara Lane. “We are a real racing team and it is because of that, that we are winning.”
The Huskies are now 8-0, including wins at an invitational meet and a perfect 3-0 record against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opponents.
“After going 3-0 so far in conference competition we are looking forward to the CAA Championships and [are] really excited to make a big impact at that meet,” Lane said of the team’s conference prospects. “We have many girls in top positions, as we saw the mid-season rankings
