As students, faculty and fans alike anxiously awaited the arrival of the WWE superstars Monday afternoon in the student center, a buzz was in the air.
The buzz however, carried over into an annoying hum as various speakers stepped up to the podium.
One such instance of ignorance and rudeness was when Student Government President Richard Schwabacher got on stage to speak. Although using a microphone, he was barely audible. His message had meaning, but it may have been lost through the chattering crowd.
Not only is Schwabacher a student, he is a leader, whether students agree with him or not. As SGA President he represents the students, but speaking over him, the students in essence muted their voice.
It is no wonder that the age bracket with the lowest voter turnout is the 18 to 25-year-old category. Students and graduates alike must take time out from their own lives and cast their votes, open their minds, speak out, and most importantly, listen.
Behavior is a reflection not only of individuals but the student population at Northeastern. If one cannot respect their own peers, who do they respect?
Think back to your childhood and remember what your parents have always told you, ‘Think before you speak,’ for it may have a longer lasting effect than you think.
