Most Husky fans are looking ahead to the men’s hockey Beanpot, but Saturday the men’s track team won a Beanpot of its own: the Battle of Beantown, topping Boston College, Boston University and Harvard at Gordon Track at Harvard. The women’s team placed fourth.
The Huskies scored a total of 172 points to beat BU’s 130, BC’s 111 and Harvard’s 108.
Freshman John Griffin and junior Dan Anderson won the long jump and pole vault, respectively. The Huskies placed the top three in both of those events, with Andrew Staples and Brendan Bergson coming in second and third in the long jump and Pablo Rodriguez and Brian Daly rounding out the 1-2-3 placing in the pole vault.
In team events, the Huskies finished second in the 4×400 meter relay and fourth in the 4×800.
The Husky women scored 103 points total. Senior Tramaine Shaw won the 60-meter dash and senior Patricia Harrison won the shot put to lead the Huskies. The NU women also finished second in the 4×400 meter, and third in the 4×800 relay.
The teams now face a 20-day layoff before they’ll participate in the New England championship that runs Feb. 29-March 1.
