In George Orwell’s “1984,” the government lights the fires of nationalism by perpetuating a never-ending war with a certain country. Thus, the populace learns to love the government because unity is needed to defeat the enemy.

The “war on terror” is a very enigmatic thing. When will it end? Who exactly is the United States fighting? Where is this war being fought? Sadly, the answers to these questions will not come any time soon.
