After Joe Vitale netted 12 goals and collected 23 assists over 37 games during his junior season, the men’s hockey captain and forward was named to the Hockey East All-Star second team Thursday.
“It was quite an honor,” Vitale said. “Hockey East has some great talent. To be named one of the top players is an honor.”
Vitale, who played in every game for the Huskies this season, played a large part in the team’s best season since 2001-02, finishing with a record of 16-18-3 (12-13-2 Hockey East). In all of Hockey East play this season, Vitale accumulated an 11-22-33 scoring line, ranking him third in the league.
While capping the season with the second team honor, this is not the first time Vitale’s performance on the ice has been recognized. He was named Hockey East Player of the Week Nov. 5.
Vitale credits his team for getting him where he is today.
“They’re awarding you for a great year, but I couldn’t have done it without the team,” he said. “They supported me and made [me] the player I was.”
