The News hosts second SGA Presidential Debate
The News will host the second and final Student Government Association Presidential Debate tonight at The Fenway Center, 77 St. Stephen Street. The debate will be between the candidates, SGA vice president for financial affairs Rob Ranley and SGA vice president for student affairs Marines Piney. Sponsored by Student Affairs, students can submit questions to the candidates online at nu-news.com. A reception and refreshments kick off the night at 7 p.m., with the debate following at 7:30 p.m. and lasting until 8:30 p.m. Athletics Director Peter Roby will moderate the debate.

NUPD becomes third MA college to get accredited
The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission recently accredited Northeastern University Division of Public Safety (NUPD), making it the 26th police agency in Massachusetts to receive accreditation and the third college or university police department to receive it, according to a Northeastern announcement. To receive accreditation, NUPD had to pass requirements, including written policy directives for most policies and procedures and an observation that the standards were being carried out. NUPD met close to 340 standards relating to all aspects of law enforcement, according to the announcement. Accreditation is awarded for three years.

Award winning author comes to Northeastern
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Cunningham is coming to Blackman Auditorium Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a reading, discussion, question and answer period and book signing, according to a Northeastern announcement. Cunningham is most notable for writing the book “The Hours,” but has also written others, including “At Home at the End of the World.” The event, called “A Conversation with Michael Cunningham,” is sponsored by Writers Rambling and Spectrum Magazine. Tickets are free for all Northeastern students, faculty and staff and can be picked up at the box office. There will also be a free viewing of the film version of “The Hours” Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Blackman. Questions for Cunningham can be submitted to [email protected]. Ski team hosts annual memorial ski competition
The NU Alpine Ski Team is hosting its annual race in memory of former teammate Mike Costa, who died in a car accident on the way to a race in 2004, according to a Northeastern announcement. The race will take place March 29 at the Wildcat Ski Area in New Hampshire at 9 a.m. Skiers of all abilities are allowed to participate. The race costs $55 and season pass holders will receive an additional discount. The race will be timed and proceeds will go to a charity named by Costa’s family.
