Boston’s LEGO Discovery Center hosted hundreds of couples Wednesday for Valentine’s Day as they celebrated love through games, food, drinks and, of course, Legos.
The 18-and-over event opened its doors at 7 p.m. sharp, with many attendees immediately lining up to ride Kingdom Quest, an interactive game where riders get to use a laser gun to shoot at spiders and zombies to earn points. At the end of the night, the player with the most points could take home a free Lego set.
Those who weren’t in line for Kingdom Quest dispersed throughout LEGO Discovery and found themselves at various stations filled with loose Lego bricks to build anything they could imagine. Some stations had high slopes for couples to build and race cars based on speed or what could clear a jump.
At 7:30 p.m., the first event of the night began. At the Tree of Togetherness, a large rainbow tree built fully out of Legos, couples competed in the Tallest Tower Challenge where they had three minutes to build the tallest freestanding tower using any Legos they could find. The competitors were creative and used flat, thin Lego pieces to their advantage by building them perpendicular to the ground to reach a greater height.
The second event began at 8 p.m. at DUPLO Park, an area usually reserved for younger children. Attendees lined up to compete in X’s and O’s Tic-Tac-Toe, a game of tic-tac-toe where they had to throw Hershey’s Kisses into a Lego tic-tac-toe box. Couples focused more on enjoying the game and spending time with each other instead of trying to win.
The main event of the night was the Big Build, where attendees were challenged to create something out of Legos that can be found at Assembly Row. Many people worked to create something with their partner before all the builds were judged at 9 p.m.
There were also various mini games throughout the night, such as a scavenger hunt and a dance competition. When in need of a refreshment, attendees had access to the food court as well as beer and cider from Remnant Brewery. Couples could even relax by getting a free shoulder and neck massage from Squeeze Massage.
The energy was joyful throughout the night, and with all the activities and attractions couples were able to embrace their inner child and celebrate their partners and relationships at a fun-filled event.
