With the current amount of apathy on this campus, it is nice to see that some students still go out and avidly support some of our athletics teams.
We have some of the best teams in America East on our campus: women’s field hockey, men’s soccer, and football. These teams deserve the support of their fellow students as much as other teams, like men’s hockey.
Students who do go to support their team of choice should understand that no matter how much they love the team they root for, poor sportsmanship is not something to be proud of.
While a student sports pass gets you a ticket to a game for “free,” this is not something that entitles you to behave any differently than a big wig who paid money for his/her tickets. A ticket purchased with a student sports pass is nonetheless a ticket. In the end, everyone in the sporting venue ends up with the same tickets. Everyone must follow the same rules and standards assumed for spectating.
It is expected that poor sportsmanship will certainly not be tolerated at any sporting event, but with the amount of apathy we have on this campus, staff should be more aware of the students who are actively supporting and mean no harm. These students are the ones who can inspire the rest of our campus to become more spirited.
