Beginning tomorrow, each of you will have the opportunity to vote for your choice for next year’s student body president. Every year we have candidates who make big promises beyond the reasonable scope of their term, and often they find themselves passing the gavel to their successor without having followed through on those promises. This year, I urge each of you to make your choice for president based on experience and proven results.
During the past year I have continually worked with students to bring the changes they wanted to see, and I have already begun laying the foundation to continue those results next year. I urge each of you to go on the myNEU portal and vote for me, Rob Ranley, for your next student body president.
This past year I worked with more than 70 student groups to grant more than $2.5 million in funding for programming, making needed improvements to the process based on student feedback. I surveyed the student body to bring student input into the University Budget process, and as a result we will have later library hours, one free laundry use per week for on campus residents and finally see renovations to Blackman Auditorium and Outtakes. I worked with the Husky Energy Action Team to reach out to more than 3,000 students to implement the optional Renewable Energy Fund in an effort to make our campus greener. I reached out to club sports while reviewing the allocation of the Recreation Fee and I am in the process of pushing for more funding for championships and capital equipment. I have spent the entire year building relationships with the student body and bringing the efforts of the Student Government Association (SGA) to more students than ever before.
As president, I will use the relationships I have built and continue to build new relationships while working with as many students as possible to ensure that every student has the opportunity to experience the Northeastern they deserve. I have begun working with the athletics department to bring student involvement to their planning for more on-campus tailgating and freshman programming. I will hold monthly meetings for student group presidents to encourage greater collaboration and discussion of important issues. I will bring more collaboration between SGA and student athletes by holding similar meetings to discuss their issues and assist with event promotion. I will make SGA a resource available to any student who needs a mentor through the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR) process and will work proactively to address concerns with the office. I will work to improve Introduction to College courses to bring freshmen important information on offices like Financial Aid, OSCCR, Student Employment and Community Service.
We need a student body president who will reach out to students and work endlessly to bring them results, not empty promises. I have the experience and the proven follow-through that my opponent lacks to ensure that you will see the changes you want. So, when voting begins Tuesday, vote for me, Rob Ranley, for President.
