There were a number of outstanding moments that occurred during the men’s soccer team’s season.
The Huskies posted an undefeated record at Parsons Field in conference play and also experienced a few big wins on the road.
But one moment stood out above the rest this season: senior day at Parsons Field, when the Huskies honored their three seniors while capping off a perfect conference season with a 2-0 win over Towson.
Prior to the game, three seniors were honored by the team, and that moment stood out to captain Greg Kilkenny.
“Myself, Paddy Tangney and Ahmed Taalat were all graduating and we beat a pretty good Towson team,” he said. “They had a pretty good season and we beat them 2-0, and it probably could have been more.”
All three seniors factored in the scoring to make the day more special on the crisp November Sunday afternoon in Boston.
Tangney opened the scoring in the first half when Kilkenny fired a free kick from about 30 yards out and he was able to get a head on it to put it into the net.
That goal was his second on the season and his first since the Huskies home opener on September 9 against Maine.
In the second half, Kilkenny continued his good day and Taalat joined in as well.
Taalat headed the ball toward the net where it was initially saved by the Tiger’s goalkeeper. However, Kilkenny was there for the rebound and put into the open net.
The goal was Kilkenny’s sixth on the year. He finished with seven, one behind team leader Taalat, who netted eight on the season.
The Huskies then went on to the Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinals where they dropped a tough 3-1 decision to VCU.
However, the senior day moment was a special one and is something they will never forget.
“I got a goal and an assist, Paddy got a goal and Ahmed got an assist,” Kilkenny said. “So all three seniors got points on the day and it is something I will always remember and I think everyone else will too, truly a special moment.”
