The men’s basketball team saw many outstanding moments throughout its season in which they finished 9-9 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and reached the second round of the conference tournament for the second straight year.
However, one moment stood out among the rest.
“I would say the best part of the season was beating George Mason at home on Senior Day,” said sophomore guard Matt Janning. “We had a decent crowd and it was nice to give Mark [Washington] a win in his last home game.”
Prior to the start of the contest, the Huskies honored their lone senior, Washington, for his efforts during the last four years.
Washington also found himself in the starting lineup for the first time during the season.
The Huskies came out and dominated the play for the better part of the first half and held the Patriots to just 18 points in the half while putting up 30.
The second half was more of a back and forth pace. In the end, the Huskies ended on top by a 70-59 margin.
Janning scored a game high 27 points and Manny Adako contributed 18. Washington pulled down a team high seven rebounds.
The team then went on to the CAA tournament where they defeated James Madison in the first round by a score of 73-55.
Northeastern had five different players score in double digits and shot 52 percent from the floor as a team during that game.
George Mason avenged the loss at Matthews Arena by eliminating the Huskies in the quarter-finals, 63-53.
However, the victory against the Patriots on Senior Day is still held in a high regard as Janning was pleased with his team’s performance on that day.
“We had a total team effort that day and it was probably the most complete offensive and defensive efforts we gave all season,” he said.
