Women’s rowing ends season at EARCs
The women’s rowing team struggled Sunday at the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC) Sprints in Worcester. The Huskies were the highest ranked crew in their heat before the regatta began, but finished third, six seconds behind heat winner Yale and three seconds behind the University of Pennsylvania. Their finish was not good enough to propel the crew into the Grand Final; rather, they competed in the Petite Final. They got off to a strong start and were even with Dartmouth in first place at the 750-meter mark when one of the slides in the boat slipped off the track, forcing the Huskies to row with seven women instead of eight. They slid all the way from first to last in the final, eventually finishing in 6:48.04, well behind winners Dartmouth (6:31.17) and runners-up Bucknell (6:17.27) The women’s crew finishes its season with an impressive 13-2 mark and will start the 2009 campaign in early October.

Three baseball players honored by conference
Several members of the baseball team were recognized this week after the conclusion of its season Sunday. Three players were named to the All-CAA first team; senior captain Mike Lyon; junior third baseman Mike Tamsin; and sophomore reliever Sheldon McDonald. Since entering the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in 2006, this is the first time three players have been named to the first team. All-CAA was not the only honor bestowed to McDonald, who was also named CAA Pitcher of the Week Monday after throwing 8 1/3 scoreless innings in two games this past weekend.
