The club women’s ultimate Frisbee team finished ninth in the nation during the team’s mid-May trip to Denver. After placing first at the regional tournament in Lancaster, it seemed the team, called the Valkyries, were staying true to their motto: “We’re going places.”
The team, which formed in 2003, is one of the youngest to compete in nationals and to finish in the top 10 of the country. Senior co-captain Courtney Moores said this is the first time the team decided it wouldn’t settle for anything less than the best.
“Last year we kind of had a goal of nationals, but it wasn’t as realistic,” Moores said, describing last season as a rebuilding period for the Valkyries.
But Moores said this year’s team was filled with familiar faces who knew the offensive and defensive plays. And although only one teammate had played ultimate Frisbee before coming to Northeastern, most players caught on quickly.
