Husky track compete in NCAA Regionals
Northeastern sent three members of the men’s and women’s track teams to the NCAA East Regional Championship in Florida Friday and Saturday. Senior Tramaine Shaw was the only member from the women’s team to compete. In her two events, Shaw placed 16th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.97, and 17th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.32. The men’s team sent senior Ed Reardon and sophomore Adrian Li. Reardon placed 19th in the discus, throwing a distance of 152’1, while Li missed the 6-foot-9-inch opening height in the high jump.
Six women’s rowing team members honored
Five members of the women’s rowing team were named as National Scholar-Athletes for the 2008 season by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. Of the five, three competitors were seniors – Ashley Griffeth, Jillise Ketcham and Meredith Sparano – and two were juniors – Svenja Sanders and Pia Zubrowski. Senior Ashley Bruno was also named to the New England All-Region First Team.
Former NU catcher makes mark with Padres
After he was called up from the Triple-A Portland Beavers to the San Diego Padres (MLB) May 9, former Northeastern catcher Luke Carlin has seen success. Carlin played for Northeastern from 2000-02, where he played in 148 games, hitting .326. This season for the Padres, Carlin started all 13 games in which he’s appeared. In his 41 at bats, he collected five runs and seven hits, with an average of .171.
Women’s basketball adds new assistant coach
Women’s basketball head coach Daynia La-Force Mann announced the addition of Chelsea Perry as a new assistant coach. Perry joins the coaching staff after four years at Union Country College in New Jersey, where she was also an assistant coach. During her time there, the team won consecutive Region XIX and Garden State Athletic Conference championships.
