Redshirt freshman earns top cross country award for the week of Sept. 21
Redshirt freshman Teddy Vrountas of the men’s cross country team was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Vrountas won the UMass Dartmouth Invitational last Saturday, finishing his second collegiate race in 25:04. His first race was the Blue Devil Invitational at Central Connecticut State on Sept. 6. He finished in 26:44, good for second.
The Huskies return to action at the George Mason Invitational on Oct. 4 in Fairfax, Va.

Men’s basketball team announces release of full schedule for 2008-09 season
The Northeastern men’s basketball team announced its 2008-09 schedule on Tuesday. The team will open its season Nov. 11-12 by playing in the 2kSports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer in Ann Arbor, Mich. The tournament is hosted by the University of Michigan. Northeastern’s opponents will be announced at a later date.
The Huskies return to New England to play at Big East opponent Providence Nov. 15. Should Northeastern win the 2kSports Classic regional, it will play at Madison Square Garden Nov. 21-22 in a semifinal and championship/consolation action. The Huskies’ home opener is Nov. 22 against Holy Cross. Other non-conference home games include Boston University on Nov. 25 and Rhode Island on Dec. 3.
The Huskies open CAA play on Dec. 6, traveling to James Madison.
Northeastern will be play eight games against teams that advanced to the postseason last year, including a road matchup against Indiana Dec. 22. Northeastern will travel to Memphis to take on the Tigers on New Year’s Eve day. Memphis was 38-2 last year and advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Tournament last season.
The Huskies will once again take part in an ESPNU Bracket Buster game Feb. 21. The game will be on the road against an opponent to be determined.
Third-year head coach Bill Coen returns 11 lettermen and all five starters to a young squad that went 14-17(9-9 CAA) last season.

Baseball pitching coach Justin Gordon leaves team to return to Temple Owls
For the second straight year, the Northeastern baseball team will open the season with a new pitching coach. Current pitching coach Justin Gordon is leaving the Huskies to return to Temple as an assistant coach, according CSTV. com. Gordon was on Temple’s staff in 2007 before coming to Northeastern.
While at Northeastern, Gordon helped the Huskies to 25 wins and a school-record 387 strikeouts.
