The Northeastern women’s indoor track team got off on the right foot Saturday, downing Harvard on the road in their season opener, 71-56.
For freshman Jordine Kimbrel, the season — and her Northeastern career — raced off to a start faster than the starting gun itself. In Kimbrel’s Husky debut, the speedster placed first in the 60-meter dash in a mere 7.49 seconds. In her second jaunt onto the collegiate track, Kimbrel broke a seven-year NU record in the 200-meter run with her time of 24.3. The old standard was held by NU alum Joanna Russell.
Northeastern also dominated the crosstown Crimson in the field events, sweeping the triple jump, high jump, and pole vault.
Tina Ibraheem anchored the triple jump, placing first with a leap of 36 feet and nine and one quarter inches. Whittly Jourdan took second, while freshman Nubia Newsome rounded out the Northeastern sweep.
In the high jump, Nicole Parker paved the way for more NU domination, taking first place with a jump of five feet and seven inches, while Janel Klowsowski and freshman Britten Cosgrove finished in second and third, respectively.
The pole vaulters, an experienced group that was integral to last season’s conference success, were led by senior Joanelle Bailey-Chandler’s vault of 11 feet, five and three fourths inches. Veterans Courtney MacLaren and Jenn Curato finished off the Husky trifecta.
