As can be expected, the weather is cold and the sun goes down really early this time of year. The many reasons to get up and look good these days are limited. While being cooped up in the house and staring at the wall, look at the things that occupy your time when you are not running around doing a million things. The music you listen to, the general media being thrown in your face everyday and the friends you made along the way can influence one’s attitude as well as fashion sense. Our next man on the street is freshman Danny O’Neill, who lives in White Hall and plays in a Ska/Reggae band called Mass Hysteria.
Northeastern News: Would you consider your home town of Brookline to be more fashionable than Boston?
Danny O’Neill: I think Brookline is fashionable because it is so close to the city and is influenced a lot by Boston fashion and shares the same fashion trends.
The News: What is the most stylish pop culture influence that you would say inspires you to dress this way?
O’Neill: Mod Culture, the British 1960s look.
The News: What is your style staple, something you would wear despite your surroundings and climate?
O’Neill: I wear jeans year ’round, no matter how hot it gets in Boston. I rock jeans all year round.
The News: If you could be any musician, who would it be and is this musician fashionable?
O’Neill: George Harrison. I liked his suit looks.
The News: David Bowie or Iggy Pop?
O’Neill: No disrespect to Bowie, but the Stooges are really influential to other punk bands and helped shape what punk rock was when it started out.
The News: Kurt or Courtney?
O’Neill: Kurt, I’m a huge Nirvana fan and was inspired by Nirvana. As much as the grunge scene came from Kurt, he was mostly influenced by 80s punk bands.
The News: Which city inspires your fashion sense the most?
O’Neill: Boston, born and raised. The punk community in Boston is where I am influenced the most.
The News: Do you consider yourself to be “in the know” of current fashion trends or are you inspired by other vintage fashion styles?
O’Neill: I don’t consider myself ‘in the know’ of fashion trends. I don’t really care what’s ‘in’ or ‘out.’
