NU supports affirmative action

By Stephanie Vosk

The controversial debate surrounding the University of Michigan’s affirmative action policy and the pending Supreme Court decision have now reached Northeastern’s campus. Professor Martha Davis, former legal director of the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund and current Northeastern Associate Law professor, spoke to an audience gathered in the School of Law Thursday about affirmative action and its place in universities today.

Davis, who has appeared before the Supreme Court before to argue a constitutional issue, spoke about the right of universities to develop a diverse community, a matter which affects students at schools all over the country.

“If affirmative action is struck down wholesale, it means schools will not have [as much] diversity,” she said.
