The Northeastern baseball team (15-8, 2-1 CAA) defeated the University of Connecticut Huskies (10-13, 0-0 Big East) 3-0 in a midweek contest March 26.
The game was scoreless through the first two innings. UConn went three up and three down through both innings, while Northeastern notched three hits.
In the bottom of the third inning, walks to junior center fielder Cam Maldonado and junior shortstop Jack Goodman put them on first and second, respectively. A sacrifice bunt by sophomore right fielder Ryan Gerety advanced the runners to a scoring position. Redshirt junior left fielder Harrison Feinberg flew out, allowing Maldonado to get a run in, 1-0.

Northeastern put the final two runs of the game on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, making the score 3-0. A double by senior third baseman Jack Doyle and a hit-by-pitch to freshman designated hitter Eric Cha gave the team two runners on base. Junior second baseman Carmelo Musacchia hit a sacrifice bunt that sent him to first base. A throwing error by UConn sophomore third baseman Tyler Minick scored Doyle, advanced Cha to third and sent Musacchia to second. Maldonado and Goodman struck out to end the inning.
Graduate student left-handed pitcher Max Gitlin pitched all nine innings for Northeastern, the first pitcher to do so this season. Gitlin allowed no walks and one hit, a double by graduate student pinch hitter Sam Biller, in a near-perfect performance.
Northeastern will face off against the Stony Brook University Seawolves (11-11, 1-2 CAA) March 28 in the team’s second conference matchup of the season.
