CAMBRIDGE – Swooping down for the kill, the Eagles were quite satisfied with the taste of the women’s hockey team, dropping the Huskies in the valley on their way to face Harvard in the Women’s Beanpot Championship.
Boston College brought new meaning to the word humiliation after defeating Northeastern 3-2. This, despite NU’s adept control of the puck for the majority of the match and taking 32 shots on goal. The game left NU coach Joy Woog “dumfounded.”
A close first period opened up the game, with both teams prevailing defensively to a scoreless set.
The second period, however, would be a different story. Northeastern scored a goal within the first two minutes of play, when Lindsay Snider assisted Theresa Ella, who floated the puck into the BC goal.
Boston College posted the next two goals, before almost burying a third.
The first took place 7:56 into the period, with an assist from BC’s Lindsey Bazzone to Jaclyn Kryzak. Kryzak laced a quick wrister from the left side of the net, easily putting the puck in for the score unimpeded.
About two minutes later, another shot was put in front of NU goalie Chanda Gunn, who, with unbelievable skill, deflected it and the ensuing rebound shot. The third time proved to be the charm for BC, however, as a nonexistent defense was left out of position. The puck got past the standout, giving BC the 2-1 advantage.
“In the second we didn’t play hard, we didn’t get the job done,” Woog said. “We didn’t do what it took to get it done.”
Kim Greene scored on a Nancy Collins dish with 33 seconds left in the period, tying the game as both teams entered the third period.
Things in the third were kept close, as both teams put forth a great effort. In the end, though, it would be Northeastern who fell to the soaring Eagles.
BC player Kerri Sanders was assisted by fellow Eagles Sarah Engwall and Thia Connolly, besting Gunn at the net and giving BC the lead for good.
