NU professor wins Presidential Award

By Alyson St. Amand

Sara Wadia-Fascetti, assistant professor of civil engineering, was presented the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring on March 18.

A Northeastern employee since 1994, Wadia-Fascetti was honored at a ceremony in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in the White House, for helping under-represented groups and minorities aspire to careers in science and engineering.

“Sara has been a very unselfish person. She has genuinely worked to help the careers of young women … and has herself been a great role model,” said Dean of Engineering Allen Soyster, who nominated Wadia-Fascetti for the award.

In addition to her award, she received a presidential commemorative certificate and a $10,000 grant that she will use to continue engineering mentoring programs.

“I’ve just been in awe and feel very privileged because there are some incredible people who have received the award. This award recognizes all of the wonderful things people have done with Connections,” Wadia-Fascetti said.
